Sula gcríochnaímid an scoil-bhliain 2020, nóta gairid ó Rang a Sé…

What a whirlwind of a term this has been! Despite the restrictions we are living by and respecting in these times, Sixth Class Assaim boys have been as engaged and as busy as ever! We have had a couple of big projects ‘on the go’ of late, most notably our Bloody Sunday Reimagined movie (for a GAA commemorative competition) and our Christmas Charity Fundraiser, in aid of Temple Street and The Irish Cancer Society.

Bloody Sunday Reimagined is a wonderful piece of collaborative work between both Sixth Classes. The short movie, written and directed by Mr. Wycherley and edited by Mr. Maher, is available to view on the main page of the school website ( The finished product is a source of great pride for the boys and celebrates the discovery and nurturing of many new personal talents and skills during each stage of work.

With 2020’s added hurdles, it took us some time to brainstorm and decide how we could bring some festive cheer to the school this December and raise funds for our chosen charities! I think you will all agree that our lads did a super job in both of these departments in the end! We had many research and presentation sessions in class before we finally decided upon our Movie Munchies Packages and the charities that we would support. Weeks and weeks of dedication, problem-solving and ‘thinking outside the box’ helped the boys to provide a fun-filled, sugar-filled, festive and captivating week for their peers! In the process, they broke barriers in terms of the amount raised for charity (over €3500 at time of print – our highest total ever!).

On Friday, I delivered 50 Munchies Boxes to Temple Street, to be quarantined and given to the children of St. Gabriel’s Ward. Porter JD, of Late Late Toy Show fame, gratefully accepted them and praised the immense efforts of the Assaim boys!

We can’t thank the boys, families, staff and the wider community of Scoil Assaim enough for the support and generosity they demonstrated during this project. It was nothing short of heart-warming and gave us such a sense of togetherness, in a time when we have never been so physically separate.

From the boys and staff working with Sixth Class, (Myself, Mr. Maher, Mr. Wycherley and Lisa), we wish you a very merry and safe Nollaig 2020. Go raibh míle maith agaibh as ucht bhur gcuid cineáltas agus tacaíocht i mbliana agus i gcónaí. Thank you all so much for the support and kindness that you have shown us.

Le dea-ghuí,

Emma Cloherty.

Our Personal Art Pieces 🎨

We have so many talented artists in the class that we decided a small area dedicated to some wonderful personal Art projects was a must!

Which Books are Making ‘the Cut’ in Room 2? ✂️

Reading is very important to us in Room 2. See our colourful book review display area below!

Our Science Display Area 🔬

Below are a couple of shots of our Science display area. So far, we have a variety of paper plane models (Final for our best flying plane to happen this week!), some research on famous scientists and some cool optical illusions!

We had great fun this Science Week! We did lots of experiments and research (photos to follow!). Most of all, we enjoyed doing some experiment tutorials for the younger Assaim classes! Take a look below 🙂
